Do what you love
You spend most of your adult life working so it's only obvious that you should do what you love and get satisfaction from your career. You should love what you do so much that, if it wasn’t for needing to eat, you’d do it for free.
Doing something you care about will feel a lot more like fun and less like work. When this is the case, the concept of balance becomes less of an issue because you'll be spending most of your time doing something you want to.
You need to get satisfaction from producing quality work; this is especially true for the creative industries. Your clients will hardly ever comprehend how much effort you’ve put into your work, and quite often they won’t really care, many won’t even thank you. You need to be happy within yourself and get joy from the work you do.
It’s easy to say that if you don’t like your job you should leave but let's be realistic, you have bills to pay and you need to eat.
Figure out what you like and what you don’t. Ideally focus on doing work you are passionate about. Sometimes it is really difficult to find work that you enjoy so you need to take on shitty work to pay the bills and keep the doors open.
Sometimes doing work you hate is worth it, but mostly it's not. Remember, if you’re not in business, you’ll never have the option to take on the projects you actually want. Think strategically and focus on the opportunities out there.
